Day Three

Today is day three and it seems like an entire week has gone by. We still have 640 nautical miles to go. Unfortunately,we are all very sleep deprived. We are finally getting used to our three hour shifts and we are getting our sea legs. We are in some better seas today and finally not feeling so sea sick. We think by tomorrow we will all be up to cooking something good for dinner. All we have eaten over the last few days is peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and some Top Ramen, at this rate we will get to Fanning 20 pounds lighter.

Day Two

We have had a rough two days and nights. The seas have just finally settled down and I'm just now able to write. All three of us are doing well. We have all encountered a few waves of sea sickness. We have good winds, about 25 kts and the seas are around 6 to 8 Ft. We are averaging 6 kts. I'm still working on the tracking Sundance link and hopefully we will be on the map my tomorrow.

Setting Sail Today

We are finally leaving the dock. Yesterday was CRAZY. Non of us have ever provisioned for 35 days. We picked the perfect day to go to Costco, Sunday right after church. I was surprised how many people were in the store. Ha! Ha!. Sundances shelves are completely full.

Our third crew member Sam flew in on Friday and he has been great help. Sam will cruise with us to Samoa.

I will post a daily activity blog and we have added a tracking map to our links. Hopefully you will be able to check out our track in the Pacific. We will not be able to post pictures until we get to Samoa so you will just have to enjoy my or mike writing for the next month.

Thanks again for all of the support from our families and friends.

More pictures of the shake down cruise.

Shake Down Cruise

June 20th 2006, We have completed the shake down cruise and Sundance performed great. We had only a couple of minor fixes but for the most part we are ready for the big sail. The trip started in Kaneohe Bay in Oahu. We sailed to Haleolono on the island Molokai spent one night then went to Manele Bay on the island of Lanai. We had two great nights in Manele bay then went onto Maui. We stayed three night one in Kaanapali and two nights in Lahaina. The last two days we sailed over to Molokai and anchored in Kaunakakai habor. On the last leg back to Oahu Mike and I decided that it would be fun to sail the last stretch during the night. We left Kaunakakai around 8pm and arrived in Kanoehe Bay around 7am. We had 20 to 30 knot winds and 8 ft seas. We really enjoyed the night sail. One thing we couldn't believe was all of the boat traffic we encountered on the night sail. The radar worked great.

We plan on leaving this weekend Sat or Sun. We have some more organizing to do,buy our provisions and we are ready to shove off. We have a itinery change for the first part of the trip. We are going to Fanning island first and then to Palmyra then on to Samoa. The wind is favoring for us to hit Fanning first. We have to provision for about 35 days . We plan on staying 7 days in
Fanning and 7 days in Palmyra. It will take us 8 days to go from Oahu to Fanning and then around a day and a half to Palmyra then another 8 days to Samoa. Once in Samoa we will be able to reprovision.

Once we get going this weekend I will be able to sent text only. The pictures will come later when we get to internet cafe or we pick up a signal when we get into a harbor. I will post a daily blog of what the last 24 hours has been like and how we are doing at sea. The program that we have for email is very limited. The email addresses that are on the blog site is the best way to communicate with us. The only problem is that the first time we will see them is in Samoa. We will respond as soon as we can.

We figured out that if you double click on the pictures they are clear. Enjoy.

Sorry for the blurry photos. We are using a wireless card to download these picture and we might be losing some of the clarity. I'm including one more picture. Most of the pictures were from the island of Lanai.

Hello everyone, We are finally on the last shake down cruise before we head south on the big adventure. We have so much planning and prep to get ready for this trip. The days aren't long enough. Today we are moored in front of the Lahaina yacht club off the island of Maui. We have been to Molokai, Lanai, and now Maui. We are planning to be back in Oahu on Sunday. We plan on reprovisioning and leaving sometime in the next week. Sundance has been running great. We are ready and can't wait to start heading south. Mike and I would like to thank all of our friends and family for all of the love and support for our big adventure. Enjoy some of our pictures of this shake down cruise.
